Learning Out the Window

The sun warms my back as I stroll down the footpath.  Diesel, the Golden Retriever, tugs on his lead, pulling me towards an agapanthus he needed to sniff.  "Come on," I urge him.  We were heading towards the Lepperton Store, I have run out of bread to make my lunch.  As I walk, I see the empty outdoor wooden tables of the cafe, waiting for people to sit at them.  They have been empty for a long time.  The window of the cafe is wide open, letting the sun pour in.  Movement in the window catches my eye as I near it. "Mrs Brunning, listen to my story," it's Chloe, holding her shiny, green writing book.
"Hi Chloe, have you been writing?" I ask.
"Yes, Dad and I went on a bike ride and then I came home to write about it," Chloe explains.
"Excellent, read me your story," I say.
Chloe reads me her story, as her parents look on and Diesel sits in the sunshine.  Her story describes what she saw on her bike ride, and she explains to me that her goal is to use apostrophes for possession, which she has done five times in her writing.  I chat with Chloe about her writing, and then walk back home feeling proud that Chloe is working hard and learning as much as she can while she is at home in lock down.
By Mrs Brunning.

  1. What a wonderful story Mrs Brunning and Chloe. I'm glad that your bike ride gave you inspiration. Great to see that you have been learning lots while in lockdown. Ka rawe!
