Great research work Fabian. I actually quite like praying mantis. We get a lot of them around our house. I think they camouflage because we had one on the wall inside and it had nearly turned cream, which is the colour of the wall. They make lots of nests in the bricks on the outside of our house too and then hundreds of tiny babies come out.
I saw on TV last week that there is a native praying mantis species and an exotic species (not from New Zealand). The exotic species is killing out the native species. But now I can't remember how to tell which one is which! Maybe you could find out Fabian? From Mrs Brunning.
